Connected Kansas Kids -- Where kids with special health needs come to find care and community.

TeleHelp Program

TeleHelp’s purpose is to increase early identification of depressive symptoms that may impact academic performance.

TeleHelp Services

  • TRAINING school leaders and staff in early detection of depressive symptoms and related concerns
  • ONLINE RESOURCES to support children and loved ones at the Connected Kansas Kids website
  • TELEMEDICINE consults with an interdisciplinary team

TeleHelp Trainings

TeleHelp can work with you to tailor informational programs for your school’s individual needs. Programs include:

  1. Day-long depression workshops at University of Kansas Medical Center
  2. 2-3 hour overviews for school staff about youth depression
  3. 30-60 minute talks at schools on timely topics ranging from Depression and 504/IEP planning to Beating Bullying
  4. 15-30 minute talks to school personnel about TeleHelp resources

Did you know...

  • By age 18, about 20% of youth will experience a depressive episode
  • Symptoms of depression include CHANGES in mood, energy, concentration, sleep, eating, and social relationships
  • Children with depression are often very grumpy or irritable and may have physical complaints
  • Untreated depression impacts school, increasing absenteeism, school failure, poor daily work, and decreased test performance due to poor concentration
  • Chronic illness, traumatic experiences, and injuries often go along with mood symptoms
  • Anxiety, ADHD, learning disabilities, and other mental health concerns often co-occur with depression
  • Social stressors, especially teasing, can set the child up for depression
  • Losses and other significant changes may play a part in depression, including deaths, moves, & divorces
  • Suicide is the 3rd leading case of death at puberty and rates are increasing among younger kids
  • DEPRESSION CAN BE CAUGHT EARLY AND IS TREATABLE!!
