Movies

The NeverEnding Story (1984)

Starring Barret Oliver, Noah Hathaway

The NeverEnding Story is a great kids' adventure fantasy framed as a bedtime story. It doesn't have the comic twists that adults enjoy in some of the other family movies, but it's a very enjoyable little flick.
- Holly Bennet, Editorial Director, Today's Parent Group

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Starring Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr

My family used to love watching The Wizard of Oz. As kids, we loved singing along with all of the songs, and the story is classic. Plus, it's a long movie so my parents could get an extended break from having to cater to us!
- Rob Sopkic, Director, Web Sales & Marketing

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002)

Starring: (voices of) Matt Damon, James Cromwell

Our family loves Spirit, the animated story of a wild prairie horse who gets caught by the American army. He eventually escapes with the help of a captured Indian but runs into many perilous adventures while trying to get back to his herd. Parents and children of all ages will love it for its beautiful animation, action, and engaging story line.
- Pamela Boyd-DeWitte, Senior National Account Manager

Ghostbusters (1984)

Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver

Beetlejuice (1988)

Starring Michael Keaton, Geena Davis

The movies that we watch a lot of these days are Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice. My 4-year-old daughter likes the funny ghosts and monsters. Even though she's seen each movie dozens of times, she still likes to snuggle when a "scary" part is about to come on.
- Pat Danaher, Production Manager

Chicken Run (2000)

Starring (voices of) Mel Gibson, Julia Sawalha

Claymation and comedy make a terrific combination in this story about a barn load of chickens making botched attempts to escape the farm. No violence, lots of fun, and laughs, and brilliant Claymation. Fun for the whole family, no matter how small your munchkins are. And if you like Chicken Run, check out previous work from the same animator in the Wallace & Grommit series. These videos are about a half an hour each, uproariously funny and ingenious.
- Mirabel Palmer-Elliot, General Manager, todaysparent.com

Anne of Green Gables (1985)

Starring Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst

I still like Anne of Green Gables after all these years. Why not braid your hair, mix up some raspberry cordial (all the better if it's the kind she served her bosom buddy Diana) and cozy up with some finger sandwiches and shortbread cookies in front of the TV?
- Brandie Weikle, Senior Associate Editor

To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

Starring Gregory Peck

If a film can make my 14-year old daughter want to read the book, then there's something special about it. This story portrays the quiet strength and dignity of a father in a southern U.S. town, where racism is still the status quo. Atticus is still my all-time hero.
- Kathy Bergen, Editorial Director, todaysparent.com

The Snowman (1982)

Animated

One of our favourite movies is The Snowman - it is visually beautiful, with no spoken words but with music that is enchanting and reflective of the storyline. It is animated and the story is about a snowman that comes to life and a child that goes on wonderful adventure with him.
- Victoria Petrolo, National Account Manager

The Princess Bride(1987)

Starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright

Adventure, romance and Andre the Giant. What more could you ask for?
- Kate Farrow, Sales Coordinator

The Sound of Music (1965)

Starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer

Our family loves The Sound of Music. We all end up sitting around and singing, not really cognizant of the fact that we're sitting around our family room with a fire and singing out loud. We end up laughing at each other and then trying to out-sing each other.
- Beth Fraser, Publicist

The Goonies (1985)

Starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman

A fun story about a group of misfit kids who stumble upon a map to a hidden treasure. The characters are cliché but irresistible - you can't help but root for them as they embark on their crazy adventure, which includes hidden caves, mudslides, booby traps and a family of bandits hot on their trail.
- Tracy Chappell, Producer, todaysparent.com

Monty Python and The Holy Grail (1975)

Starring John Cleese, Graham Chapman

For older kids, Monty Python and The Holy Grail is great. It's still funny after all these years, if you like that sort of thing - and my kids do! My ten-year-old's MSN motto is "Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?"
- Holly Bennett, Editorial Director of Today's Parent Group
